APPA 2009 update

Just got the prints back from Canon APPA 2009.

As I mentioned in the previous post that I missed the judging of one of the prints… well it got a hounorable score of 79 out of 100, which is only at one point away from a second Silver Award for a firstimer.

That’s pretty good.

All silver and gold awards will be published in the Canon-sponsored Australian Professional Photograohy Award book which will be released next year before Canon APPA 2010. How exciting is that.

Here is the missing print, by 1 point, for that book :p

but I’ll be back for more

Canon APPA 2009. My first entry and first Silver Award in the Wedding open category

After a few years in the photography industry, and three years in my own studio as Nomad Photography, I decided to submit some prints to the Canon APPA 2009 prints awards (Canon Australian Professional Photography Awards) that took place during the PMA 2009 in Sydney.

I am thrilled to announce that for my first entry in this competition, I received my first Silver Award in the Wedding open category. How exciting is that.

Here is the awarded print.

Silver Award in the Wedding open Category. Canon APPA 2009

Beside the satisfaction of my brides and grooms, I wanted to enter this competition as a personal assessment. This award is a recognition from peer professional photographers as a high professional level of wedding photography.

To be honest, I didn’t expect much for a first time but now I am hunger for more. This is the kind of drug that pushes you to be better for the next time.

Winter in the park

Who’d have thought that I’d be outside such often during winter.

I spent so much time outside that I even forgot to blog and put up some new stuffs. Promised, I’ll get back behind the keyboard soon.

These are a fewphotos from a recent shot with Rachelle. My hat off for Rachelle, who braved the cold, and posed for me in really thin coats.

There was a double purpose for this shoot, Rachelle’s portfolio and, as a dual system shooter, I wanted to put my gears in real shooting situation tests:

I packed my 2 Canon 5D Mark II and my Nikon D700 along with their famous 70-200 f2.8 L/ED IS/VR USM/AF-S.

I will be posting a full report on this particular dual system shoot in a next post, so stick around.

These are a few images from the shoot. Scroll down for a behind-the-scene video.
