Canon 7D and Nikon D700 Confrontation

Updated the confrontation between the Canon 7D and the Nikon D700.

The test is mainly focused on the AF system of these two cameras in Ai Servo, for Canon, and Continuous AF for Nikon.

Video of the scene in HD:

A quick test of the new Canon AF system on the 7D in Ai Servo mode at 8 fps.

Cameras used: Canon 7D and Nikon D700

Lenses used: Canon 70-200 f2,8 IS L USM and Nikon 70-200 f2,8 AF-S VR G

Cameras settings:

Tv/T: 1/8000 sec

Av/A: f:2.8

ISO: 800

Ai Servo @ 8fps for the Canon 7D

Continuous AF @ 5fps for the Nikon D700

Center AF point used.

Both cameras have been placed on a tripod with their IS and VR turned OFF.

The speed of the subject is towards the camera at a stabilized speed of 60 km/h

The Canon 7D is set of AF priority and we only have 67 frames out of the theoretical 80 frames for the 10 seconds squeeze of the trigger.

The Nikon D700 gave a consistent 42 frames for 8.3 seconds squeeze of the trigger.

Haley Roach – Chic & Glams Underground

I “discovered” Haley during the Miss Top Model Finals and I must say that I immediately noticed her in the crowd of models.

Haley has a special look and style that make her stand out from the competition. She is fun and easy going.

Once again I drag a model out to  the cold, I think this shoot was the coldest in the series, but Haley played the game and I’d say that it’s worth it as the images speak fro themselves.

Check this space back, more to come, especially the video of the shoot on Nomad TV.

Model: Haley Roach

MUA: Melissa Mullard

Models on the top of Canberra

Another shoot in the cold with my favorite model Rachelle and another young and talented model : Emma.

This is the second time that I shoot Rachelle during this winter. Despite the cold, both models showed professionalism and did a really good job.

Once again I put the Canon 5D Mark II and the Nikon D700 to the test and I shot more with the Nikon than the previous shoot.

Both cameras perform beautifully but I still have my preference for the Canon for its bigger file size (more mega pixels) and the color rendition. But again, after post, one can barely tell, especially for web based sizes.

For this shoot, I had the pleasure to have the visit of my Dad. He was “responsible” for my love of photography and it was really cool to have Dad on set.

Check out the behind the scene video under the photos. The video was shot my my brother Vincent. The shoot was on Mt Ainslie in Canberra.

Enjoy.

Canon 5D2. Birth of controversy.

There is a lot of dicussion around on various forums regarding the Canon 5D2 and its new features. Some yell out for scandal why Canon put a video mode in a D-SLR and other complain about the “affordable” (but not confirmed) price of 2500 USD body only. The main argument found around is that “uncle Bob” could have the same camera as you at a wedding …

Well, I’d say that a camera doesn’t have to be expensive to give fantastic images. Having a top of the line camera doesn’t make you an outstanding photographer either. If you know how to pull the best out of your gear, if you master the light and composition, you can have kiler images even with apoint ans shoot. At least that’s what I think and believe.

Other than that, I still like to have the lastest gears because, because … because I like it. And if it could help me to improve my photography than why not? I used to mix still images and short video sequences in my slide show, and the brides like it, so now with full HD video function built in the Canon 5D2, why should I complain? In fact I don’t.
